Listening Room

25 Years of memories. From the stations first moments on air to some of those jingles from years gone by. Did you know the original orchestra playing on the original jingles in 1983 were the Manchester Halle! and the lead male vocalists were Clifford 'T' Ward, who had 70's hits with 'Gaye' and 'Home Thought From Abroad' & David Parton, singer of the hit single 'Isn't She Lovely'. Packages also featured Ian Wilson from Manchester band Sad Cafe and 'Take That' vocal coach Shelia Goyt. The initial jingle packages were made by Alfasound in Cheshire.

You'll hear lots of stuff on our giant jukebox below, depending on your connection speed these may take time to load.

We've also put on the jukebox lots of 'On Air' moments from over the years, including the very last 'Pub of the Week' presented by the late Mel Scholes. There are also some previously unheard moments too. A big thank you goes to all of the staff past & present who have contributed these clips.

Pictured above the origianl recording session for the first jingle package at Alfasound. Composers Steve England and Alan Fawkes are working alongside programme director Tony Hawkins.

Also pictured are the Halle Orchestra, recording the Signal theme.

Well twenty five years have elapsed and the 2008 Signal 1 Jingle package has been recorded in Seattle USA by the team at IQ Beats. UTV Assistant Group Programme Director Simon Walkington visited IQ Bets to oversee the recording of the session. He's pictured below with the IQ Beats team.

Two main vocalists were used on the package Michael Wastman & Emily McIntosh, both are pictured below during the Signal 1 session.
